For anyone planning a trip to the mountains, this changes the equation. A short two-night New Year's Eve stay is no longer the only option.

The week between December 27 and December 30 is a time in the mountains that can be easily wasted or put to good use.
Skis. Ski Arena Szrenica typically opens its winter season in early December and runs until spring. The resort operates chairlifts, T-bar lifts, and slopes of varying difficulty levels. Night skiing was also available in previous seasons. Cross-country skiing. Jakuszyce is part of Szklarska Poręba and one of the most important cross-country skiing centers in Poland. It is here that the competition has been held for half a century. Piast Race, the largest cross-country skiing event in the country - the 51st edition is scheduled for February 13, 2027, and registration opens on October 9, 2026. The organizer's website features a camera showing the conditions at Polana Jakuszycka, allowing you to check the snow before you go instead of guessing.
Winter trails. Karkonosze National Park is open year-round. A one-day ticket costs PLN 11 (regular) and PLN 5.50 (reduced), while for longer stays, a two-day ticket (PLN 20/PLN 10) or a three-day ticket (PLN 26/PLN 13) is cheaper. A day without going out. With short days and freezing temperatures, this is a viable part of the plan, not a setback. The apartment building's pool and sauna area make the day a breeze without getting in the car.
The city publishes the New Year's Eve events program usually in December, in the calendar events on the official tourist website of Szklarska Poręba. In previous years, fireworks displays were held in the city center and outdoor entertainment was held at the Esplanada Family Amusement Park.
