Szklarska Poręba with children is one of the best choices for a family trip to the Polish mountains. Mountains, forests, waterfalls, dinosaurs, roller coasters, ziplines, and a swimming pool – all within a few kilometers of the center. You don't need to plan a week-long excursion to the attractions – just a few carefully chosen spots will make the trip something the kids will remember for a year.
This guide is for parents who prefer to know in advance: what works, what doesn't, how much it costs, how long it takes, and where to go next. No more rambling.
Szklarska Poręba is a great place to visit all year round - but the season matters, as it changes not only the weather but also the availability of attractions and accommodation prices.
Winter (December–March) This is a classic for families with children over 4-5 years old. Szrenica offers trails for beginners, ski schools accept children from 3 years old, and playgrounds and spas in the apartments are perfect for snow-free days. Winter holidays are the peak season, so accommodation prices rise; it's worth booking several months in advance.
Spring (April–May) is greatly underrated. The waterfalls are at their highest level then, the trails are passable, there are almost no crowds, and accommodation prices are significantly lower. The Dinopark and Rope Park usually open in mid-April.
Summer (June–August) This is Szklarska in full swing. Holidays, river beaches, mountain trails, all attractions open. Hot? Rarely—the altitude takes its toll. Crowds? Yes, especially in August.
Autumn (September–October) This is another underrated season. The forests are vibrant with color, the trails are quiet, and some attractions are still open. Perfect for families with school-age children – after the summer holidays, before the winter break.
One of the largest dinosaur parks in Poland, located at 7 Muzealna Street in Szklarska Poręba Średnia (near the Szklarska Poręba Średnia train station). Free parking is available a few hundred meters from the park entrance. There are dozens of life-size dinosaur figures, an educational trail, a live animal enclosure, a playground, and a picnic area.
Age: from 2 years old and up. Dinosaurs have the greatest effect on children 3–8 years old. Time: 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on the child's pace. Distance from Stone Hill (Kilińskiego 8): approx. 3.5 km, 8 minutes by car. Walking distance: approx. 45 minutes.

Several ropes courses of varying difficulty, from those for 3-year-olds to those for adults, are available. Safe, efficient service, with on-site instructors. Children have complete freedom of movement, which is invaluable after several hours spent in the car.
Age: from 3 years (routes for toddlers), older children can use the higher routes. Time: 1.5–2 hours. A recreation center on the promenade with several attractions in one place: water slides, trampolines, and a climbing wall. A good choice for an afternoon, especially when the weather is unpredictable.
Distance from the center: about 1 km.
Slide down three professionally prepared tracks on donuts. It sounds simple, but it works brilliantly. Kids can repeat it over and over for an hour straight. Open during peak season – summer, winter break, and long weekends. Before visiting, it's worth checking their profile for the current schedule.

Something for families who want to give their children something more than just adrenaline. The Julia Glassworks is one of the few places in Poland where you can witness the production of crystal and artistic glass in person. Krystalium, a multimedia museum in the glassworks, is especially impressive for children aged 7 and up.

The highest waterfall in the Polish Sudetes (27 meters) and one of the most beautiful views in the Karkonosze Mountains. The shortest trail (red) leads from the parking lot at Czeska Szosa (Huta housing estate) – 1.5 km, approximately 35 minutes each way. From the center of Szklarska Poręba or from Kilińskiego 8, it's about a 50-60-minute walk or a 10-minute drive to the parking lot. The trail is well-marked, paved at the bottom, and rocky above.
Important: It's difficult to access with a stroller – we recommend baby carriers for the little ones. Children 4+ will do fine if they enjoy walking. The area is fenced, but it's a good idea to keep children close by near the waterfall.
Entry: paid (Karkonosze National Park), family ticket available at the ticket office. Time: 1.5–2 hours back, no rush.
The chairlift ride up Szrenica (1,362 m above sea level) is one of those moments that children will remember for a long time. The cable car consists of two sections (Szrenica I and II) and covers over 600 meters of elevation gain. At the top, there's a viewpoint with a panoramic view of the entire Karkonosze Mountains – on clear days, you can even see the Czech Republic. Ski slopes in winter, hiking trails in summer.

For children: The chairlift ride itself is an attraction. The ascent, the view from the top, and the descent will easily take 2-3 hours.
The Death Curve is a sharp, 180-degree road bend on the Sudecka Road (Road 358 from Szklarska to Świeradów-Zdrój), at an altitude of approximately 775 meters above sea level. The curve itself is free of charge – the main attraction is a viewing platform with a panoramic view of the Karkonosze Mountains and the Jelenia Góra Valley. Nearby: an old pyrite mine adit and the trail to Wysoki Kamień (approx. 1 hour walk with children).
For older children (8+), this is a good addition to a day trip – accessible by car, a short 5-minute walk to the viewing platform, and a view. It's not a half-day attraction, but worth including in your itinerary.
Szklarska Poręba lies right on the Czech border. Harrachov is about a 30-minute drive away, a Czech town with a ski center, ski jump, glass museum, and Czech restaurant. Pec pod Sněžkou is another ski option, about 40 minutes away.
A good plan for a one-day trip, especially off-season, when Polish attractions have already been tested a bit.
An apartment is a much better choice for families with children than a hotel. Why?
The kitchenette allows you to prepare breakfast and afternoon snacks without leaving the house – with children of different ages, this saves a lot of time and money. A minimum stay of three nights is reasonable – this gives you time to enjoy two or three of the main attractions without rushing, plus a buffer day in case of bad weather or a tired child. A week allows you to see most of what we've described here and also get some rest.
Shoes for walking in the forest and on trails are an absolute must. A raincoat, even in summer—mountain weather changes quickly. A swimsuit if you're booking an apartment with a pool. Sunscreen—the sun is stronger at the top. For children: a baby carrier if you have an infant or toddler who doesn't walk for long.
There are several restaurants with kid-friendly menus in the center of Szklarska Poręba. There are snack bars near Dinopark and Trollandia.

If you prefer to cook for yourself, there's a Biedronka supermarket on the promenade and several shops in the city center. In the apartment with a kitchenette, you can easily prepare breakfast and dinner.
Traveling by car is the most convenient option with children – it allows for spontaneous trips and doesn't depend on a schedule. Parking is free at most apartments. Train: train from Wrocław to Jelenia Góra, from there take a bus or taxi to Szklarska Poreba (~25 km).
Szklarska Poręba is one of those places where you can return year after year and have a different vacation each time—because your child is older and can handle different trails and attractions. With a one-year-old, it's the spa and walks. With a three-year-old, it's the Dinopark and playground. With an eight-year-old, it's their first skis. With a teenager, it's via ferrata and Szrenica.
A well-chosen sleeping area is more important here than in many other areas – because children, tired from all the attractions, need a place where they can run around in the evenings without rushing. An apartment with a pool solves this problem very efficiently.

Is Szklarska Poręba suitable for children under 3 years old? Yes, but with a different plan. Skip the mountain trails for later. A walk to the Szklarka Waterfall (easy route), the Esplanade, the apartment's swimming pool, and the quiet town center will do the trick. Fewer attractions, but more relaxation—which is often more important with small children.
Which attractions are closed in winter? The Trollandia Dinopark and Rope Park operate seasonally – usually from April to October. The Szrenica lift and gondola lift operate during the winter (ski season). The waterfalls are accessible year-round, but the trails can be icy – high-top shoes are required.
Are there playgrounds in Szklarska Poręba? Yes. In addition to paid attractions, there are several free playgrounds in the city - near the park on the promenade and in various parts of the estates. Is it worth going to Szklarska Poręba in winter without skiing children? Absolutely. The winter atmosphere of the town, spa, sauna, swimming pool in the apartment, and peaceful walks through snow-covered forests are a complete program for parents with small children who aren't yet skiing.
