In the upper reaches, the average water level drops by 72 per mille, while in the lower reaches, it is seven times lower. As part of a major flood control program between 1910 and 1915, the riverbed was regulated and reinforced in many sections. Debris barriers were constructed. One of these created a picturesque reservoir and a waterfall attractive to tourists. The effectiveness of the barrier was confirmed during the "Flood of the Millennium" in 1997.
